School Holiday Guide
The Aim of this program was to;
- increase the opportunities for young people to take part in physical activities
- offer them an introduction to areas of activity not previously accessed by them.
This strategy has been employed in other areas but never on the Gold Coast. Information on existing school holiday activities is collated into a format which was made available to young people and their parents. This was initially done through production and distribution of a poster and electronic versions made available through easily accessible sites eg. McDonald's stores, schools notice boards & newsletters, council newsletters, libraries, youth and community agencies. It was also available the Gold Coast City Council Youth Webpage and the Care For Life Webpage.
This project proved to be very popular, with organisations eagerly awaiting the information prior to each holiday period.
With the creation of the GCCC's Active and Healthy Program, Care For Life proposed the opportunity to build on the Council's initiative by merging the Care For LIfe's School Holiday Guide with GCCC's Active and Healthy School Holiday Program. In Dec 2006 and Jan 2007 holiday period, Care For Life's School Holiday Guide officially combined with the Gold Coast City Council's Active and Healthy School Holiday Program.
For more information go to the Gold Coast City Council's website www.goldcoastcity.com.au/activehealthygc
This will continue for future holidays and Care For Life will continue to work collaboratively by providing information to the GCCC's Active and Healthy School Holiday Program.
